Solitaire

In hell Persephone plays solitaire
Hades is off making money
trapping souls
doing whatever Hades does
Persephone plays double-deck solitaire
on a rainy afternoon
weaving black and red cards
into numbered patterns
whssh when she picks one up
click when she puts one down
She always loses
the only suspense is how long it takes
If only that king didn't block the pile
if only that six were the six of hearts
if only the queen could save herself
if only
if only
how lonely
to be losing at solitaire
on a rainy afternoon
