Persephone, like the Moon

Persephone hangs in the sky like the moon:
she is full
     then she dwindles
          then she disappears

Persephone is grave, her temper tidal;
     her absence casts light
          her darkness shadows

Earth's mother and her daughter,
     aloof Persephone hangs in the sky
          twisting light into nets;
               she hauls ocean up the shore and makes pools

that boil in the sun
